GMU Faculty/Staff Housing

157 Townhomes Across 37 Buildings for University Faculty and Staff

George Mason University Faculty Housing includes 157 townhomes for GMU faculty and staff across 37 buildings on campus for first-time client Mason Housing, Inc. The townhomes are wood-framed on grade-level concrete slabs with brick, stone, and cement board siding. The townhomes feature five unit types ranging from one- to three-bedrooms and include finishes such as granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, ceramic tile flooring, and attached or detached garages. The site consists of two tot lots, two pre-fabricated concrete bridges over existing streams, rain gardens, and porous asphalt paving in alleys. CBG also improved nearby Roberts Road with acceleration lanes, deceleration lanes, and asphalt walking trails.

Architect: Torti Gallas and Partners

Completion: October 2010

our process
Overcame unforeseen setbacks, including 40 weather delays, by creating a strategic recovery schedule to deliver the community two months ahead of schedule.

Implemented an expansive stormwater management pond to preserve adjacent creeks, recycled all construction debris at a local site, developed multiple rain gardens that eliminate the need for irrigation, and reused excess project soil in an effort to maintain an environmentally friendly project.
