Petersburg, Va. — On December 10, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) selected Clark Design/Build for a new housing project for Soldiers in Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Lee. Clark partnered with architect LS3P Associates on the $68 million project, which will consist of two environmentally-friendly barracks structures alongside multiple support and operations facilities.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to deliver this important project for the Army," said Keith Anderson, executive vice president of Clark Builders Group. "We look forward to drawing upon our past experience and strong partnerships, which will enable us to successfully meet the needs of the Army Corps and the AIT program."

The Army AIT program follows Soldiers' Basic Combat Training to provide hands-on training and field instruction within specific career paths. The new complex project will be a cohesive development providing both housing and affiliated functions for Soldiers in this program. The project's barracks will house over 600 Army personnel in apartment-style homes, whose varied floor plans will feature kitchens, living areas, and walk-in bedroom closets. In support of new housing, the complex will also include classrooms, administrative and operations offices, storage facilities, and a reception area to welcome visitors. An outdoor jogging track, physical training pits, and access drives and parking areas will meet additional USACE requirements.

"In approaching this project, our primary goal is to provide the best facility possible for the ultimate customer, our men and women in arms," said Chris Ions, principal at LS3P Associates. "Recognition by the Army Corps of our Clark-LS3P team is a testament to our record and technical merits as well as the quality of our design and construction capabilities. We look forward to delivering an award-winning component of the Fort Lee installation."

The Fort Lee project will help to fulfill USACE's long-term need for modern and secure military personnel housing. When complete, the project's five-story brick buildings will meet DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings and achieve LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council. The Fort Lee project is part of the Northeast Region Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC), a program that allows the military to invite qualified offerors to compete for design-build contracts.
