May 30, 2012

SILVER SPRING, Md.—This past Wednesday, owner RST Development held a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Galaxy, a luxury apartment community constructed by Clark Builders Group (CBG). The Galaxy is located in downtown Silver Spring and contains 195 units, amenity space, and several green features. CBG's fourth completed project in downtown Silver Spring, The Galaxy is the company's 10th project for RST Development. Scott Copeland, principal of RST Development, and several federal, state, and local officials gave remarks at the event. They praised the hard work and partnership that brought the Galaxy to fruition. "With the Galaxy now 60% leased... this wonderful corner of Silver Spring will become an even more vibrant part of the community," said Scott Copeland.

The Galaxy

The Galaxy boasts ample amenity space including a state-of-the-art fitness center and clubroom with pool table, bar, flat screen TV, and lounge seating. Courtyards and a sleek cyber cafe just off the lobby round out the project's offerings. Apartments are just as luxurious with custom cabinetry, granite countertops, premium appliances, and private balconies and patios. The Galaxy's innovative green features include solar panels to generate energy and a roof of natural vegetation that works to insulate the building.

High voltage fluorescent lighting in common areas and EnergyStar appliances throughout the project serve as further energy conservation measures. Clark Builders Group implemented several green building procedures during the construction process to minimize environmental impact, including reducing sediment runoff and managing stormwater quality.

"The Galaxy is a great addition to the Silver Spring market," said Keith Anderson, president of Clark Builders Group. "We delivered an environmentally responsible, top-tier community for a developer with whom we have a long term, successful relationship. That's something the whole team can be proud of."

Not only does the Galaxy bring green housing to the area, it benefits greater Montgomery County as well. The project's four-level, below-ground parking garage contains 368 parking spaces, 160 of which are for public use, which triple the amount of parking previously available in the area. The Galaxy also offers a tot lot and Art Walk connecting King and 13th Streets where local artists can display their work.
