DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA—Moxy Hotel hosted a reception yesterday evening for the D.C. Preservation League (DCPL) annual meeting in celebration of the project's historic status. DCPL's chairman of the board thanked CBG and Moxy team members for working hard to ready the event space ahead of the hotel's final delivery to project owner Douglas Development Corporation.

CBG removed and refabricated existing cornice, eyebrows, and door surrounds to match the original design. The team installed new structural angles and star anchors to support the existing facade laterally, and washed down, repointed, and applied a clear sealer to the brick masonry.

CBG built the Moxy to achieve LEED Silver certification, garnering high marks in energy and atmosphere optimization thanks to fixtures like Variable Refrigerant Volume heating and cooling systems. Other innovative techniques such as metal stud framing and a glazed curtain wall achieved the owner's goals.

"Historical preservation projects are both intricate and unique," said Keith Anderson, president of CBG Building Company. "We are proud of the project team for building a modern, urban project from the ground up while respecting and rehabilitating DC's historic landscape."

Event presenters included DCPL leadership as well as archeologists who highlighted recent excavation projects and major findings around the District.

The 200-room, boutique Moxy hotel is part of Marriott's worldwide brand and features exposed concrete, open ceilings, and amenities such as a rooftop lounge, fitness center, meeting spaces, and retail space for esteemed restaurateurs. The Moxy is proximate to the Metro Center and Mount Vernon Square Metro stations and will be open to guests this winter.
