J Sol Commemorates Topping Out
ARLINGTON, Va.—CBG Building Company commemorated today the completion of J Sol's vertical construction. The 22-story post-tension concrete high-rise features 326 apartments and a five-level below-grade parking garage and is scheduled for completion in October of next year. CBG welcomed representatives from owner Jefferson Apartment Group and architect Hickok Cole to the event, which included a catered lunch, t-shirt giveaway, and a raffle for field staff.
J Sol Commemorates Topping Out
Topping out the project required substantial coordination between CBG and local municipalities as its garage is located 10 feet from the underground Metro tunnel and required extensive structural elements including piles, rakers, and corner braces. The site also contained a significant amount of rock, making excavation even more challenging.
J Sol's tower is composed of three narrow bars of varying height in order to maximize outside corners for better unit visibility and offer a slender profile from each direction on Fairfax Drive. Its ground floor features a small urban plaza that will be surrounded by retail.
"We are extremely proud and thankful for all the hard work and effort that everyone involved has contributed to reach this major milestone in the project," said Darren Wellner, senior project executive at CBG. "It has been truly amazing to witness 22 stories go up in just seven months!"
Targeting LEED Gold certification, J Sol features a variety of sustainable design aspects, including EnergyStar appliances, energy-efficient lighting, and a green roof. This pedestrian-friendly apartment complex is located within walking distance of numerous dining and entertainment options as well as two Metro stations along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.
