Sherman Avenue Apartments to Provide 319 Residential Units in Shaw Neighborhood

WASHINGTON—CBG Building Company completed the first elevated slab on the 139-space below-grade parking garage today for Sherman Avenue Apartments, a 319-unit mixed-use community in Washington, D.C.'s vibrant Shaw neighborhood. This milestone follows CBG's completion of the slab on grade in late January. Scheduled for delivery in April 2018, the apartment community is CBG's first project with client RISE: A Real Estate Company.

Located on the site of a former refrigeration building and 24 obsolete townhouses, Sherman Avenue is within walking distance of the Shaw-Howard University Metro, Howard University, Howard Theater, and Banneker Recreation Center.

The community encourages a variety of lifestyles in its studio, one- and two-bedroom units and six two-story townhomes, offering residents luxury amenities such as an elevated courtyard with pool and grill area, vegetative green roof, a hydroponic room, and a large community area featuring a fitness studio, yoga room, clubroom, and business center. As part of the project scope, CBG will install a replica mural that honors the site's history within Sherman Avenue's new clubhouse.

Targeting LEED Gold certification, Sherman Avenue will feature several sustainable elements, including EnergyStar light fixtures in all units, low-VOC paints, adhesives, mastics and glue, low-flow plumbing features, and a bioretention system in its interior courtyard. The pedestrian-friendly community will offer bike racks and an on-site repair station for residents, and is centrally located within walking distance of a variety of transportation options as well as several popular bars and restaurants.
