Clark Builders Group Chosen to Build Student Housing in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Student Housing College Park, LLLP has chosen Clark Builders Group (CBG) to serve as the general contractor for The Varsity-a six-story, mixed use development that will bring much-needed, high quality housing to University of Maryland students. A privatized student housing project capable of accommodating approximately 901 students, The Varsity complex will include 258 apartments, one level of elevated parking, and approximately 30,000 square feet of retail space. The property is ideally situated on Route 1, just north of the college's main entrance. In selecting a general contractor, Student Housing College Park, LLLP choose CBG to complete the project because of CBG's competitive pricing and proven ability to exceed client expectations. CBG will work with architect Grimm & Parker, with further support from: Cates Engineering, Mendoza Rebas Farinas + Associates Bohler Engineering.

"As with most student housing projects, there are critical schedule milestones which must be met to coincide with the university's academic calendar. In addition to addressing the student housing shortage in the College Park community, The Varsity will bring a long-awaited face lift to the Route 1 corridor and tie into additional planned developments in the area. One proposed infrastructure improvement is the construction of a bridge on the The Varsity's southern side that would allow residents more convenient access over the 50-foot wide Paint Branch stream en route to campus. The owner envisions a restaurant moving into part of the ground-floor retail space.

CBG has begun construction at The Varsity, and is currently in the framing and rough-in phase of construction. Residents will be able to occupy the building in time for the Fall 2011 semester.
