Aurora Condominiums ‘Tops Out’ in Silver Spring

Clark Silver Spring Builders helps take innovative renovation project from idea to reality.
July 29, 2005

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Clark Silver Spring Builders recently celebrated the topping out of Aurora Condominiums with the final roof-deck concrete pour for the second of two high-rise condominium towers. When complete in April of 2006, this exceptional condominium community will offer 145 homes with state-of-the-art amenities near the Silver Spring Metro transit station. The Aurora is completely sold out, and in December of 2005, residents will begin moving in.

Developed and managed by RST Development, Aurora Condominiums creatively combines adjacent 12-story and 8-story office buildings into one integrated 143,000-square-foot residential community. The renovated twin towers will be connected by a dramatic new lobby and landscaped garden.

"We're taking two underutilized structures and we're giving the local community something it sorely needs: a modern residential neighborhood within close proximity to the Metro," said Scott Copeland, principal of RST Development.

Designed by A.R. Meyer and Associates, Silver Md., the one- and two-bedroom residences average 500 to 1,100 square feet and feature granite counters, wood floors, and stainless-steel appliances. Aurora Condominiums residents will also enjoy community amenities in the common lobby area, a fitness center, and covered parking.

As part of the rehabilitation of the buildings, Clark Silver Spring Builders undertook the daunting process of removing a 30-foot slice off the side of the larger tower to create room for the new lobby and garden area. To increase Aurora's overall living area, two penthouse floors were added to the smaller tower, extending it to ten stories.

"The team came up with inventive ideas to convert these office buildings into living, breathing communities, and we are proud to take the project from idea to implementation," said Don Goglio, Project Executive at Clark Silver Spring Builders.

Aurora Condominiums is located on Eastern Avenue between Georgia Ave. and 16th Street where Maryland meets Washington, DC.
