LAS VEGAS — The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently announced the 2009 Best in American Living Award (BALA) winners at the International Builders' Show, naming two Clark projects among the year's best. Camden College Park in Maryland, which took home Gold for Best Rental up to Five Stories, and Pacific Beacon in San Diego, which won Silver for Best Rental over Five Stories, were selected for their unique design concepts and superior community amenities.

"The Best in American Living Award winners demonstrate a depth of imagination and innovation that really sets them apart," said Deb Bassert, NAHB's assistant vice president for land development. "These projects advance design concepts that really improve our living environment, and that's more important than ever in this challenging economic climate."

Camden College Park is a 508-unit luxury apartment community with a unique urban-campus development plan. Located just steps from the University of Maryland-College Park, the project caters to students as well as professionals and young families in the larger metropolitan area. Built by Clark Builders Group for Camden Property Trust, Camden College Park features well-appointed upgrades including built-in bookshelves and fireplaces, and first-class community amenities ranging from an expansive fitness center with rock climbing wall to a Wi-Fi cafe and Bocce ball lawn.

On the west coast, Pacific Beacon at Naval Base San Diego is the nation's first luxury apartment community serving unaccompanied Sailors. The three striking 19-story towers of Pacific Beacon house over 2,000 service members in dual-master-suite apartments complete with luxurious amenities and finishes. Adding to the project's appeal, Pacific Beacon also offers a wealth of community facilities including an on-site education center, 9,000-square-feet of exercise space, an outdoor courtyard and fireplace, rooftop Beacon Lounges and Sky Terrace featuring an expansive swimming pool. Pacific Beacon was developed by Clark Realty Capital and constructed by Clark Builders Group.

"We are thrilled to be recognized by the National Association of Home Builders as the winner of two BALA awards this year," said Glenn Ferguson, president of Clark Builders Group. "These awards are especially important to us as they represent our commitment to quality throughout the design and construction process, and our forward-thinking approach to each project we undertake."

Sponsored by Professional Builder magazine and NAHB, the program awarded a total of 67 winners in 37 categories. The BALA judges highlighted major industry design trends, including a movement towards creative, contemporary solutions for rental projects. This award marks the fifth consecutive year that a Clark project has won a BALA.
