Clark Builders Group to Revitalize Historic Site in Alexandria, Virginia

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—Clark Builders Group (CBG) partnered with developer JBG Companies and MRP Realty to begin work this September on the Exchange at Potomac Yard, 20 acres within a 300-acre plot of land situated mainly within the City of Alexandria. The site will feature various residential, commercial, and retail developments, including Notch 8 and two buildings within Potomac Yard Town Center to be constructed by CBG.

Once home to a bustling rail yard, Potomac Yard had sat abandoned for more than 20 years due to route changes in the local train system. The site is now being developed and includes 20 acres designated for the Exchange at Potomac Yard, which will include retail space, new homes, and a park with an ice skating rink for use during winter months. Once complete, CBG's Notch 8, named after the railroad term "full speed ahead," will be a six-story, 253-unit apartment community with a Giant grocery store and underground parking.

The building will include a pool, bathhouse, party room, and green roof courtyard. "It hearkens back to the rail yard heritage. It's an industrial-modern look, but it has a very unique feel which relates to Potomac Yard," Andrew VanHorn said, a senior vice president with JBG. CBG and MRP will also commence construction on Potomac Yard Town Center, a 17-acre, mixed-use development with retail, office, a hotel, and a park. CBG's two buildings will feature 323 residences and luxurious amenities including a pool, fitness center, rooftop lounge, and a patio.

Both Notch 8 and Potomac Yard Town Center are targeting LEED certification, with the Giant grocery store seeking LEED Silver.
