Clark Builders Group Breaks Ground on Alexandria Apartment Community

Carlyle Block O Will Feature 344 Apartments within Two LEED Certified Buildings

ALEXANDRIA, Va.— Clark Builders Group (CBG) broke ground today on the site of its newest luxury apartment community, Carlyle Block O. In June, Post Properties of Atlanta selected CBG to construct the residential complex in the southeastern corner of the emerging Carlyle neighborhood in Alexandria. Clark is partnering with SK&I Architectural Design Group of Bethesda on the $60 million project.

"We're excited about adding to our residential portfolio in the vibrant Carlyle community of Alexandria, Virginia," said Charles Konas, executive vice president of construction and property services at Post Properties. "This is our second community built by Clark Builders Group. They have brought all of the necessary resources for both concrete and wood frame construction to successfully execute this project and we look forward to a continued partnership on future projects."

Carlyle Block O is the second Post property in the Carlyle District and will consist of a four-story wood-framed structure abutted by a 14-story, post-tensioned concrete building. Block O's 344 luxury apartments will sit atop a two-story below grade parking garage. Individual units offer a variety of floor plans ranging from one to three bedrooms and feature crown molding, wood cabinets, GE appliances, and wood flooring in select apartments. Community amenities include a clubroom, fitness center, rooftop pool and terrace, and an ornate interior courtyard.

"We are thrilled to embark on this project for second-time client Post Properties," said Keith Anderson, president of Clark Builders Group. "This is our first multifamily project in the Carlyle District, and CBG is eager to play a part in the area's growth."

Carlyle Block O is designed to achieve LEED certification. Among the project's sustainable features are several recycling centers, EnergyStar rated light fixtures in each unit, the use of low-VOC paints and adhesives, and low flow plumbing fixtures. The project also features a waste diversion plan with the goal of diverting 75% of construction waste from landfills to recycling facilities.

In addition to its location within walking distance of the King Street Metro Station and Whole Foods, Block O's pedestrian-friendly community design and tenant bike storage racks are designed to encourage sustainable transportation.

Clark and the owner plan to deliver the first apartments in late 2012.
