CBG Completes Fort Totten Square and Second D.C. Walmart

Transit-Oriented, Mixed-Use Community Delivers at Fort Totten Metro in Northeast D.C.
June 26, 2015

WASHINGTON—CBG Building Company (CBG) completed construction today on Fort Totten Square, a 345-unit, wood-framed apartment community featuring 130,000 square feet of retail including an urban-format Walmart near the Fort Totten Metro Station. Fort Totten Square is CBG's second mixed-use Walmart project with the JBG Companies, following completion of 77H near Union Station in January 2014.

Fort Totten Square

Four blocks from the Fort Totten Metro Station, Fort Totten Square provides immediate access to the city and suburbs via the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines. The transit-oriented community is intended to transform South Dakota and Riggs Road into the new commercial center of the neighborhood, furthering the evolution of the envisioned "transit village" in the up-and-coming Fort Totten neighborhood.

"It brings us great pride to deliver our second Walmart community with JBG," said Keith Anderson, president of CBG. "From the earliest days of design, this has been an exciting product and we are delighted to help bring it to life."

Targeted towards the booming number of professionals seeking residence just outside of D.C.'s center, the amenity-rich community will feature a fitness center with an indoor/outdoor yoga studio; two internal courtyards with a tiered resort-style pool, sundeck, and outdoor living rooms; a lounge with media, gaming, and entertainment; and on-site storage units. To serve its studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, all units are outfitted with oversized windows, granite countertops, hardwood-inspired flooring, and spacious closets.

Fort Totten Square also includes 740 parking spaces via below-grade parking for Walmart customers, alongside a structured parking deck for additional retail and residential use. The 120,000-square-foot Walmart is scheduled to open at the end of October 2015 and will feature a full-service grocery and pharmacy. Two fast-casual restaurants will occupy the additional 10,000 square feet of retail space.
