CBG Completes 5,000 Beds for Students and Families at University of California, Davis

Orchard Park Adds More than 1,500 Beds to Nation’s Largest Student Housing Community Following Delivery of The Green at West Village
August 16, 2023

DAVIS, Calif.—Today, CBG Building Company and its project partners celebrated the completion of Orchard Park, a multifaceted student housing community located on UC Davis’ campus. This milestone follows CBG’s completion of The Green at West Village—the largest net-zero community in North America—in September of 2021. The public-private partnership, which includes The Michaels Organization and UC Davis, delivered a total of 1,860 units and 4,839 beds on schedule for students and families as part of the country’s largest student housing community to date. Orchard Park's completion supports a Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the city of Davis to bolster student and family housing.

"This is a great example of our joint collaboration and commitment to meet the housing needs of our students, and exceeds the milestone set in the 2018 MOU to provide 15,000 student beds on campus," said city of Davis Vice Mayor Josh Chapman.

The redevelopment of Orchard Park offers 200 affordable two-bedroom units to students with families and beds for more than 700 graduate students. The community comprises 11 four-story Type 2A residential buildings that were constructed using a proprietary light-gauge steel system atop slab on grade. CBG also constructed three one-story community buildings containing a graduate student commons, family commons, mail and package center, fitness rooms, and a maintenance center. The LEED® Silver development features six solar arrays that generate power across the three community buildings as well as ample outdoor space with a playground facility and bike/pedestrian paths. CBG delivered both Orchard Park and The Green at West Village on schedule despite unprecedented supply chain challenges and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"CBG Building Company takes great pride in the delivery of Orchard Park," said Ryan Schlesinger, senior project executive at CBG. "The community's success is a testament to the collaborative partnership between UC Davis, The Michaels Organization, TCA Architects, and CBG. We are thankful for the opportunity to contribute to UC Davis' growth"first with The Green at West Village and now with Orchard Park"and are excited to see it come to life as graduate students and students with families take residence."

CBG’s 105,000-unit nationwide portfolio encompasses $2.3 billion in student and campus housing experience. Other California projects include River Trail Village at Napa Valley College, a 588-bed, P3 student housing community and the Naval Postgraduate School, a 2,209-home master-planned community serving families and graduate students in Monterey.
