CBG Awarded University of California Student Housing Work
DAVIS, Calif.—CBG Building Company has been selected to perform the general contracting services for the student housing redevelopment project today at the University of California, Davis. Working with developer University Student Living, an affiliate of the Michaels Organization, CBG will be leading the construction of the project's two communities, 19-acre Orchard Park and 22-acre West Village.
The Green at West Village
"We are excited to see both of these projects move forward to provide more on-campus housing options for our student population," said Emily Galindo, associate vice chancellor and executive director of Student Housing and Dining Services.
CBG is tasked with delivering the RFP minimum housing stock of 700 graduate beds with 200 units of family housing at Orchard Park and 1,875 beds at West Village by August 2020. The development team is evaluating opportunities to deliver additional housing beyond the RFP minimum.
Located near the upper northwest part of campus, the communities are in proximity to Highway 113, several restaurants, a local nursery, and the UC Davis recreation center and sports field.
"CBG is proud to take on this complex project at UC Davis," said Jim Forburger, senior vice president of CBG. "The redevelopment of Orchard Park and West Village will be great additions to the college campus and we are thrilled to be a part of the team."
In addition to Orchard Park and West Village, CBG's recent student housing experience includes Central District, a five-building community including student housing apartments and dining hall at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, scheduled for completion in July 2018; Sherman Avenue Apartments, a 319-unit mixed-use community near Washington, D.C.'s Howard University, scheduled for completion in April 2018; and Varsity on K, a 12-story renovation project for George Washington University in Washington, D.C., which completed in January of this year.
