900 Thayer Commemorates Topping Out
SILVER SPRING, Md. —CBG Building Company celebrated the topping out today of 900 Thayer, a 124-unit apartment community scheduled to open in September of this year. The project team hosted representatives from owner Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC), architect KTGY Architecture + Planning, construction management firm JDC Construction Company, and more than 400 field staff and subcontractors who helped CBG complete vertical construction.

900 Thayer was originally conceptualized more than a decade ago and adapted to changing market conditions by undergoing a redesign to make the project more sustainable and affordable.
In addition to its affordably priced units, the apartment community is set to deliver amenity spaces such as a rooftop terrace, a first-floor courtyard with fireplace, and two retail spaces totaling 5,098 square feet.
To celebrate 900 Thayer's topping out, CBG catered lunch, gifted commemorative apparel, and held a raffle for attendees. "It's been our pleasure to work with HOC for the first time on 900 Thayer," said Keith Anderson, president of CBG.
"We'd like to thank the dedicated field staff and subcontractors who helped us reach this milestone, and we look forward to delivering more affordable housing to the Silver Spring area."
Of 900 Thayer's 124 apartments, 84 will serve households earning between 30 to 60 percent of area median income, and 40 will serve those earning 80 percent or less of area median income. The community targets LEED Gold and EnergyStar certifications; it features micro-bioretention planters, low-VOC paints, adhesives, mastics, and glue, and is diverting 75 percent of all construction waste from landfills to recycling facilities.
900 Thayer is also transit-oriented: it features bike storage and is in walking distance to a bus stop, the Silver Spring Metro station, and downtown Silver Spring.
