360 H Street Honored with 2013 Gold Nugget Grand Award

Innovative Clark Builders Group Project Earns Recognition by Pacific Coast Builders Conference for Best on the Boards Multifamily Community
June 7, 2013

SAN DIEGO—At the 50th annual Gold Nugget Awards ceremony this Wednesday evening, the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) presented Clark Builders Group (CBG) with the Best on the Boards Multifamily Community Gold Nugget Award for 360 H Street in Washington, DC. The project earned distinction among a group of over 500 public and private international entries across 49 categories, marking CBG's eighth Gold Nugget Award win since 2010. Located just blocks from Union Station, 360 H Street's location will be in high demand for both residents and retailers seeking to be an active part of DC's up-and-coming H Street community. The project represents a significant step in the overall revitalization of the neighborhood, with a combination of affordability and the convenience of amenities such as an onsite gym and two floors of underground parking, 42,645 square feet of leasable retail area including a supermarket, an elevated courtyard and amenity area on the second floor, and a 7,500-square-foot rooftop terrace. The property's Giant supermarket will be H Street's first large-scale grocery store on the planned DC streetcar transit route.

"This 215-unit mixed-use apartment building will fit right into its urban neighborhood when completed," noted the Gold Nugget Award judges. "The architects have taken great care to design the structure to fit the context of surrounding townhomes, matching brick courses and using the proper materials to create a welcome addition to the neighborhood. An added bonus is the grocery store on the ground floor, giving the neighborhood a much needed resource for shopping."

Designed to earn LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, 360 H Street will be built on a brownfield urban site and CBG will divert seventy-five percent of debris from landfills during construction. The community will feature many sustainable elements, including low-emitting materials, ten percent recycled content, ten percent regional materials, alternative transportation, and water-saving appliances.

"We are honored to be recognized for 360 H Street among such a large group of competitors," said Keith Anderson, president of Clark Builders Group. "CBG always strives to be a good neighbor and partner. As with any dense, urban project we build, this one came with its share of challenges; but it is great to be recognized as a result of collaboration among wonderful ownership, design, and construction teams."

The Gold Nugget Awards are housing's oldest and most admired design competition. The awards honor excellence and innovation in community improvement through exceptional concepts in design, planning, and development and connect leading architects, builders, and trendsetters in the design community.
