CBG Leads Prescient® Milestones by Pioneering Technology

Company Builds Tallest and Largest Prescient Projects to Date
March 5, 2021

ARLINGTON, Va.—In the past six years, CBG Building Company has constructed more than three million square feet of Prescient® work, completing the design-build system’s tallest and largest projects to date. Charlotte-based Prescient designs, manufactures, and delivers efficient and sustainable building components to its clients' construction sites to reduce time, cost, and risk throughout the building process. An early adopter of the system, CBG has gained years of valuable experience as the premier general contractor for Prescient projects.

"Using Prescient on the University of Kansas Stouffer Place Apartments and Downs Hall allowed our team to develop a faster, more efficient project for our client," said Dan Moylan, Senior Development Manager at Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate. "Our team was able to focus on our clients' needs throughout the project, knowing that Stouffer Place and Downs Hall would be delivered successfully to accommodate KU's academic schedule."

CBG’s culture of adopting new construction technology like Prescient helps to inform and advance its industry position nationwide. CBG broke ground on Prescient’s first public-private partnership—Stouffer Place Apartments and Downs Hall for the University of Kansas—which included more than 1,250 beds and was completed in 2018. CBG also leveraged the time-saving technology to build Lark on 42nd—a 161-unit, six-story University of South Florida student housing community with a seven-story precast garage—in just 12 months. CBG is now underway on the solar-powered, net-zero energy UC Davis West Village, a 22-acre, 3,311-bed student housing community across nine residential buildings, and UC Davis Orchard Park, a 14-building graduate student and family housing community across 19 acres. Combined, the two developments will be the largest Prescient projects to date. CBG reached its most recent milestone last August when it completed Prescient’s tallest project to date: Generation Atlanta"a 336-unit market-rate apartment community with 12 residential floors over a five-level cast-in-place parking garage. Among these notable firsts, CBG introduced the first Prescient-built projects to Florida, Kansas, Georgia, California, and is slated to do so in Maryland.

"Our research showed they were years ahead of everyone else," said Chris Hirst, senior vice president at CBG. "As engineer, manufacturer, and installer of the superstructure, Prescient focuses on a turnkey frame, so we can put our superintendents and project managers back in their correct role, as orchestrators for the project."

CBG’s building expertise and Prescient’s ability to promote sustainable building and reduce construction time, costs, and risks fuel the two companies’ impactful and continued partnership. CBG’s current Prescient projects include 505 Courtland, a 17-story high-rise with 284 units in the SoNo district of downtown Atlanta, and the second phase of the country’s largest, net-zero student housing community at the University of California at Davis.
