The Mosaic at Metro Apartments project is mere steps away from the West Hyattsville Metro Station, providing residents with easy access to public transportation. Mosaic at Metro residents also enjoy groceries, shopping, restaurants, places of worship, theaters, banks, fire station, and a public library within walking distance, reducing automobile dependence. The project was designed with reducing energy consumption in mind by incorporating low E windows, compact fluorescent lighting, and Energy Star® appliances to reduce the project’s overall need for electricity. The use of a precast parking garage, with well over 50 percent of the spaces under cover, and installation of grass pavers on the required emergency access roads reduces the heat island effect of the project. Mosaic at Metro maintained large courtyards with multiple plants and large grass areas to enhance greenspace. The project team used recycled concrete as backfill and sub-base material wherever possible.
