The U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and Clark Realty Capital partnered to develop, renovate, and construct military family housing communities for the Presidio of Monterey (POM) and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). The development, with locations at the Ord Military Community on the former Fort Ord and La Mesa Village in Monterey, consists of approximately 2,400 existing, renovated, and new houses along with multiple clubhouses, ball fields, and recreation centers with indoor pools. The housing and amenities serve the 4,000-plus local population of service members and their families assigned to POM and NPS.
The Monterey Bay Military Housing development consists of 2,580 military homes across two main sites, La Mesa Village and Fort Ord. The two sites incorporate numerous measures of sustainability, including Energy Star® appliances in all units, a water-saving plumbing system, and drought-resistant plants. The project team diverted more than 75 percent of construction waste from entering landfills, and reused a large portion of the site’s existing infrastructure. The team also captured all stormwater on site and designed irrigation to incorporate reclaimed water. Fort Ord’s community center is targeting LEED® Silver certification.
