The U.S. Navy and Lincoln/Clark formed a partnership to design, construct, and operate military family housing communities for Marine Corps Base Quantico in Prince William County, Virginia. The team demolished 1,270 homes, built approximately 990 new homes, and renovated 144 historically significant structures for members of the Marine Corps and their families assigned to Quantico. Lincoln/Clark will manage 1,137 homes at Quantico for the next 50 years. Lincoln/Clark is a joint venture between Clark and Lincoln Property Company.
Building Green at Marine Corps Base Quantico Family Housing
The project team recycled all concrete from demolition for reuse in road sub grade and mass fills. CBG also designed and tested all new units to ensure they meet or exceed EnergyStar® standards, including R-19 wall insulation and high-efficiency furnaces and water heaters. As part of the project scope, CBG preserved 70-year-old stacked apartments, “The Bricks”, by converting them into three-story townhomes with garages. The team preserved the buildings’ original brick and masonry façade and repaired their original slate roofs. The team was able to successfully reposition this significant piece of the base’s history by incorporating innovative and green construction techniques.
