As part of a public/private venture (PPV) with the U.S. Navy, CBG replaced 77 units at MCAS Miramar Military Base. Nine of the units are multifamily townhomes, with the balance being single-family homes that range from 1,700 SF to 2,500 SF. All of the homes have two-car garages. The new neighborhood includes two 2,500 SF clubhouses with pools and outdoor recreation areas. Additional community amenities include three picnic areas, one tot/play lot, and two sports courts. MCAS Miramar is located in the Miramar community of the City of San Diego, twenty miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
As part of a public/private venture with the U.S. Navy, Clark Builders Group replaced 77 units at MCAS Miramar. Waste reduction and demolition material re-use were key factors at Miramar. The project team participated in a waste management and recycling program involving drywall, cardboard, and lumber sorting and recycling. The team crushed existing concrete and asphalt on site and reused it as Class II Base for vehicular paving. At completion, an estimated 8,100 tons for asphalt and concrete were diverted, in addition to 3,500 tons of building components. As water conservation and energy efficient building systems were also concerns given the finite natural resources and the environment, the project team incorporated drought-tolerant landscaping to reduce water demand for irrigation. The team also installed low-flow toilets and faucets to reduce potable water demand. Appliances complied with Energy Star® standards, and electrical and mechanical equipment and the building envelope complied with California Title 24.
