77H Recognized for Construction, Design, and Community Excellence
Innovative, Mixed-Use Clark Builders Group Project Earns Accolades

August 18, 2014
"The original design intent was to place this large, mixed-use community into the neighborhood and make it seem like it has been there forever," said the judges of the WBC 2014 Craftsmanship Awards. "The mission was accomplished through the design and the craftsmen of the exterior masonry executing to perfection. The brick-type and design detailing were taken in a large part from the adjacent Government Printing Office that is across the street and is omni-present in the neighborhood."
Transformed from gravel parking lot into a striking mixed-use building, 77H affords luxury and convenience to residents and retailers seeking to be an active part of the lively H Street community. The project was designed to connect the existing retail of H Street NE with Chinatown and features an urban-format Walmart with a rooftop mezzanine, leasable ground floor retail space, and two levels of below-grade parking for both shoppers and residents. The award-winning project also features four levels of luxury residential space and boasts high-quality amenities such as an onsite gym, rooftop pool and lounge area, and two internal courtyards.
"The development is located in an area of Washington long underserved by grocery stores and retail," cited The Washington Business Journal. "In the case of 77H, the 75,000-square-foot Walmart is located on the second floor, allowing the ground floor to feature 10,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail that fronts H Street."
Earning both LEED® Silver and Enterprise Green Communities Certifications, 77H features recycled building materials and low-VOC caulking and paints. The project was designed around transit-oriented living, and is located within blocks of the Union Station, Gallery Place/Chinatown, and Judiciary Square metro stations.
"It is an honor to be recognized for 77H among a variety of awards presentations this season," said Keith Anderson, president of Clark Builders Group. "From the outset, 77H was a unique, groundbreaking project that was particularly exciting for CBG, and we are proud to have delivered a high-quality community that resonates with both the neighborhood and our real estate and construction peers."
